Saying Goodbye To Hollow Temples

Posted in: Dermal Fillers Published: February 5th 2019

Using fillers to volumise the temples can be beneficial for many patients who want to create a symmetrical and healthy look to the face. Women and men with long narrow faces may notice hollow temples more, as it gives the appearance of a skeletal frame or skull-like face shape. As we age, our temples start to become hollow causing headaches and migraines, alongside other temporo-mandibular disorders. The round healthy looking face that represents youthfulness is lost to a monkey shaped frame.

Carrying out treatment of the temples properly with the use of fillers can ensure there is no risk of damaging optical nerves or other devastating complications. Using a cannula is highly recommended to prevent deep damage to nerves. Cannulas can ensure the gel filler is administered into the correct place at the right angle.

In contrast, a sharp needle could possibly pierce the fine fascia of the temple anatomy. Injecting of the gel in the wrong plane of direction could cause it to migrate to the wrong space within close proximity.

Products that are suitable for treating hollow temples include Juvederm Voluma and Sculptra. These two products are popular in replacing the fat loss on the temples, filling in the hollow space. The latter being a special type of collagen stimulator with long-lasting results for up to several years.

Using the microspheres of poly-Llactic-acid (PLLA) found in Sculptra requires two to four treatments, with patients revisiting six to eight weeks post treatment.

When using collagen stimulators, patients must be advised to massage the area of treatment daily to smooth the collagen and prevent the formation of lumpy nodules.

By week 8, patients see at least 20% of the total correction required. Whilst HA fillers provide instant rejuvenation and last about 12 to 18 months, use of PLLA microspheres takes eight to 10 months to reach the final desired effect, however this treatment has the benefit of lasting several years.

At Filler World, we provide you a one-stop shop dermal filler destination.

We advise our products should only be administered by licensed healthcare practitioners after purchase.
